Mara Thornberg

LPC, LCPC, NCC / Owner

I grew up in Albuquerque, where poverty, substance use, and instability shaped my early years and demanded strength long before safety. By fourteen, I was working to support myself, learning how survival and responsibility often collide.

Those experiences, combined with my service as a National Guard NCO and later an Active Duty Officer, gave me a deep respect for invisible wounds. I earned my BS in Family Studies and Human Development, then my MA in Counseling, so I could offer informed, grounded support to people carrying heavy stories.

Remington

Chief Snuggle Officer

Therapy can be hard, but Remi makes it a little easier. With paws-on experience in tail wags, naps, and soulful presence, Remi brings warmth and levity to our counseling space. Remi specializes in stress reduction, unconditional acceptance, the occasional comedic interruption, nonjudgmental presence, fur-based mindfulness, and the occasional snore of solidarity. Warning: side effects may include spontaneous smiling and feeling seen. She doesn’t take insurance, but she does accept compliments.

From Hardship To Healing

I grew up in poverty, around substance abuse, and mental health struggles, then joined the Army to serve, learn, and lead. Working since my teens taught me grit, while my BS in Family Studies and Human Development and MA in Counseling gave me language for what many of us live. That mix of lived experience and training guides how I sit with complex stories today.

How I Practice Today

I use a person-centered, brain and body approach that combines EMDR, somatic work, sandtray, and trauma-focused psychotherapy. Together we track how your story lives in your thoughts, emotions, and nervous system, then build skills for regulation, boundaries, and connection. My goal is simple, to help you feel safer inside your own skin, and more free in your daily life.
